Ángelo Henríquez has been forced to snub Chile in their South American Under-20 Championships so that he can finalize a move from Manchester United to Wigan Athletic on loan.
Ángelo Henríquez has yet to make a first-team appearance for Manchester United since moving from Universidad de Chile in the summer for an undisclosed fee.
His signature at United was officially penned on 5th September 2012 meaning that he was not registered in time for squad selections for the Premier League and Champions League.
However, Henríquez will be free to register for both competitions at the start of 2013, but rather than see Henríquez continue his trade in the U21s Sir Alex Ferguson feels it would be better to loan him out to Wigan Athletic so that he can obtain first-team football in the second half of the season, especially in the Barclays Premier League.
Henríquez, speaking with the Daily Mirror said:
“I asked repeatedly to go [and play for Chile] and showed desire to do so. But they want me to go to Wigan and keep playing in the Premier League, I would never say no to Chile. It would be a serious mistake, but United are not letting me go.”
“I already talked to the manager Roberto Martinez and he told me that I would have more chances.
“His idea is to have me as a substitute for Kone. It will then depend on me taking advantage of them.”
